Preś Blackmon - "Mr. Voice"


With over thirty years in the television and radio industry, Mr. Pres Blackmon is affectionately known in Los Angeles as “Mr. Voice.”

Preś Blackmon began his radio show in South Bend Indiana, where he attended the University of Notre Dame, and American University, in Washington D.C. Earning his degree in Broadcasting Communications.

Mr. Blackmon relocated to the greater Los Angeles area in 1972, after serving his country in the Vietnam War. He began to work at various radio stations in the city and surrounding cities, as a radio personality on radio station (KMAX, KDAY, XPRS and KPPC) just to name a few.

After taking a sabbatical leave from broadcasting Mr. Blackmon again joined another arena in broadcasting which is gospel music. He became the voice of KTYM Radio with a weekly radio show on Saturdays, from Midnight ‘til 1:00 AM. He became the number one gospel announcer throughout southern California. Mr. Blackmon has hosted over 1,000 plus concerts and has traveled to eighteen states and three countries as an announcer, hosting concerts for recording artists and Grammy Award Winners: The Might Clouds of Joy, The Dixie Humming Birds, The Williams Brothers, Harvey Watkins Jr., & The Canton Spiritual, Stellar Award Winners: Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s, The Christianaires, other recording artists The Jackson Southernaires, Spencer Taylor and the Highway QC’s, The Original Soul Stirrers, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, The Clara Ward Singers, Timothy Garner & The TraVails and many others.

Mr. Blackmon also served as the house announcer for the “Insider Gospel Award show” 2002 &2003. He is also the voice of “Faith in Action” broadcast on K.T.Y.M 1460 (M-F) 2:15 –2:30 p.m., with Dr.

Jynona Norwood. And cast Narrator for the play “Uncle Fletcher’s Money.”

Mr. Blackmon is the original voice of “Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N’ Waffles” where he serves as one of the senior board member. Roscoe’s have five locations throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

In addition to having enjoyed(ing) the fruits of his labor, numerous States, City and National Office’s - including President William (Bill) Clinton, the late Mayor Thomas Bradley, and the late Supervisor Kenneth Khan, (Presented him with the Keys to the city of Los Angeles, for the First Preś Blackmon Day – August 1975).

Mr. Blackmon has received numerous proclamations, honors and letters of support nationwide. He is also the proud recipient of various awards (i.e. 1978-1979 Internal Revenue Services Man of the Year Award, 1984-1985 Pauline Award, 2000 Announcer of the year from the Ecclesiastical Juderistion of the State of California-COGIC - 2001 Black Business Expo – Legend Award - 2005 Icon Award, Timothy Garner and the TraVails and in 2008 Who’s Who in Black Los Angeles “The Inaugural Edition.”

One of Mr. Blackmon’s greatest joys is giving back and serving his community. Mr. Blackmon has had various speaking engagement at elementary, middle school, high school and some vocational colleges, where he was the guest speaker. Where you can find Mr. Blackmon encouraging our young black sleeping GIANTS to “stay in school.” Another one of Mr. Blackmon’s community outreach is the Open Hand Care Center – Feeding the homeless, including the Los Angeles Projects for over ten (10) years.

Mr. Blackmon is a very proud parent of two children, recording artist PreZ II, and daughter Nikki Blackmon.
